What Lissn is
Lissn connects you with a trained peer: someone who has been through something similar and
has been screened and trained to listen well. That is genuinely valuable, and for a lot of
people it is what they actually need: someone to talk to, affordably, right now.
What Lissn is not
Not therapy. Buddies are not licensed clinicians. They do not diagnose,
prescribe, or provide medical, legal, or financial advice.
Not a crisis service. Nobody is monitoring the app around the clock waiting
to intervene. If you need immediate help, use the numbers above.
Not a substitute for professional care. If what you are dealing with needs
a therapist or a doctor, we would rather point you there than keep you here. See
finding professional help below.
How we try to keep sessions safe
Screening and training. Every Buddy passes an empathy screening, completes
a training module, and accepts a code of conduct before they can take a session.
Crisis detection. Messages are checked for language suggesting immediate
risk. When something is flagged, the Seeker is shown crisis helplines and the Buddy is given
guidance on how to respond and when to step back.
Contact-info redaction. Phone numbers and similar details are stripped from
messages, so a session cannot be moved off-platform where none of these protections exist.
Reporting. Every session can be reported, by either side, during or after.
Reports go to a moderation queue.
Both directions. Buddies can also flag a Seeker's behaviour privately.
Safety is not only the Seeker's concern.
Finding professional help
The app has a "Find a licensed professional" section, and a Buddy is expected to point you
there rather than out of their depth. We would rather lose a booking than have someone rely on
peer support for something that needs clinical care.
Reporting something concerning
Use the report option in the app, or email
safety@lissnapp.com. Reports involving immediate risk to
someone's safety are prioritised. See Contact & Grievances for
escalation and response times.
